Significant changes for .LV registrars

Thank you all for the active participation in the public consultation on the proposed changes to the .LV policy. We have evaluated each suggestion and are currently working on refining our policy documents.

We would like to inform you about two significant updates concerning registrars:

• the new .lv domain name price for our registrars will come into effect on 1 November, not 1 September;
  
• registrars will now have the capability to register and renew .LV domain names for multiple years.
  

Price change from 1 November

In order to give our registrars some additional time to prepare for the upcoming .LV domain name price change, we have decided to implement the new pricing (outlined below) on 1 November!

The first invoice for .LV registrars, based on the new NIC.LV price list, will be issued by 5 November 2023. It will contain:

• new .lv domain names registered in October (old price),
  
• .lv domain names that expire in November (the new price).
  

If a registrar deletes a .LV domain name in October, but changes its mind in November, the price for the renewal of the domain name will be based on the new NIC.LV price list.

Multi-year registration and renewal

Multi-year registrations and renewals for our registrars have long been high on our priority list. As we work towards integrating this service into the online system and EPP, we are pleased to provide a temporary solution starting from 1 September.

Please note:

• Multi-year registrations and renewals are available:
  
  • for new domain names registered starting from 1 September 2023;
    
  • domain name renewals starting from 1 October 2023.
    
• The maximum period is 5 years;
  
• When registering or renewing a DNSSEC-signed domain name for multiple years, the 50% DNSSEC discount will only apply to the first year due to the possibility of holders switching registrars to one that does not provide DNSSEC. For other years, the registrar’s 35% discount applies (if the number of domain names under their management exceeds 50). Discounts are not cumulative.
  

If a customer wants to register a .LV domain name for several years on 1 September.

The registrar should follow these 2 steps: 1. Initial registration – register the desired domain name in the .LV zone for one year;
2. Invoice Adjustment - In October, an invoice will be issued reflecting the one-year registration. However, registrars will have the flexibility to modify the usage period by choosing any period between one and five years.

Please note - adjustments made in the October invoice will be recalculated in the November invoice!

If a customer wants to renew a domain name for multiple years.

In the NIC.LV invoice that contains the domain name to be renewed, the registrar can modify its usage period by choosing any period between one and five years. Changes made to the invoice will be recalculated in the following invoice.

Please note that multi-year registrations and renewals are applicable only to domain names included in the invoice!

We will inform you as soon as the option to designate a multi-year period becomes available through both the online system and EPP!
